Development of a novel tailored ion-imprinted polymer for recovery of lithium and strontium from reverse osmosis concentrated brine

This study aims to prepare ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) with the benefit of a metal-based sorbent, which is fabricated selectively adsorb lithium (Li+) from aqueous solutions, and in an attempt remove strontium (Sr2+). The adsorption processes were carried out at different pH values, initial concentrations, temperatures, optimize experimental conditions, use response surface methodology (RSM). seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) brine was physically chemically characterized, physicochemical characterization prepared IIP before after also performed using spectroscopic methods. capacity for Li+ Sr2+ SWRO evaluated, reusability investigated adsorption–desorption cycles. results showed that efficient but not Sr2+, it follows Freundlich isotherms models. analysis revealed significant concentration minerals sample It low trace metals, like Ba (0.16 mg/L), Zn (0.845 Fe (1.31 Cu (1.165 Pb (1.505 V (3.88 except Li Sr shows higher 43.32 mg/L 16.93 respectively. 10 selected be optimum isotherm experiments, as highest Sr2+. thermodynamics on favored exothermic conditions. noticed maximum (Qm) increased temperature rise 714.3 mg/g 25 °C 2500 45 °C. desorption show 94.03% − 94.71% ions recovered, while 96.35% 96.56% recovered. efficiency removal% between 84.21% 84.68%, 3.83% 10%. cost preparation 2 USD/g.
